Smile it's time for our church's annual 7 days of prayer and fasting. I will endeavor to post some of the things I glean over the next few days, here's my first, hope it encourages you as you fast and pray:
Moses is old. He knows his time of departure is near. He is giving out his final instructions.
See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. Deuteronomy 4:5
He is underscoring the importance of God’s decrees and how following them will ensure their success in entering and taking possession of God’s Promise Land.
Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” Deuteronomy 4:6
He further explains that by observing God’s laws the people they meet and encounter will see wisdom and discernment in them. Ultimately concluding that they are a great nation. That God would make a clear distinction between His people and their neighbor nations. This is the promise we can hold on to as we fast and pray.
What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him? Deuteronomy 4:7
The reason he gave was because these nations and people will see how near God is to them whenever they pray to Him. The summary of his message to them was that God was near them, as near as a prayer away. As you start this year’s prayer and fasting keep in mind that God is near – He is but a prayer away.
