Prayer and Buckingham Palace
Blogging at 5 AM in London. Thanks to jet lag. I am here for Every Nation's IPC Meeting.
The last time I was in London I visited Buckingham Palace, the official residence England’s Monarchy.
There were rows of people standing outside the imposing gate and courtyard, endless clicking and flashing of cameras as people wanted a piece of the British Royalty, even if it was just the façade of their home.
Each year visitors are allowed in only 8 weeks during the summer. And so here I am again at the wrong time of the year unable to enter in.
But there is another Palace where the Greatest Monarch lives. And unlike Buckingham Palace there are no tickets and bookings to be made, no dates to watch out for and no crowded lines and cameras flashing.
No need to settle for just mere pictures of gates and facades. Instead we can visit any time, any day, everyday.
The key lies in prayer. Prayers that are not just about asking for things, favors, wants and desires but a prayer that declares thanksgiving. Prayer that says thank you for simply being my Father and God.
God does not resent answering our requests. He instructs us that we should always ask. Like any father God wants to give the best to His children.
But just like the father that I am, it always feels better when our children come, first to say thanks and to praise us for who we are in their lives.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4
This kind of prayer gets us through the gates and the courtyard. It is the kind of prayer that allows us to linger, sit and enjoy tea with our Father, the King Himself.
